Robbie Muirhead says that his first goal for Partick Thistle was up there with his famous wonder-goal for Scotland under-19s.

Muirhead was nominated for the UEFA.com goal of the season 2014/15 alongside Lionel Messi after scoring from 35 yards against Norway.

He produced an equally stunning effort to chalk up his first goal for the Jags before quickly adding another in the emphatic win over Kilmarnock.

Despite the spectacular nature of the strike, the attacker was modest after the match.

“It was just one of these things that can happen in a game, I just hit it and it went in,” he said.

“I wasn’t really expecting it after the one in the first half when I fired one into the stand!

“In fairness I have scored a few like that. I got one for the Scotland under-19s and I scored a similar one for Killie against Motherwell last season.

“I’ll definitely record it so I can watch it back.

“It’s definitely up there and to score against my old club was good but I probably enjoyed scoring the second one more.

“The first one was my first goal of the season so it was more relief than anything else and the second goal was a good team goal.

“After we went 4-1 up the game really opened up a bit more because they were chasing it and our midfield players began to dictate.”

Muirhead finds himself in the unusual position of helping his loan-club move further away from his parent-club Dundee United, who are rooted to the bottom of the Premiership table.

Although he knows he will be back at Tannadice in January, he insists that his focus at the moment is solely on doing his best for Partick Thistle.

“I keep in contact with most of the boys and I wish them all the best before games,” he said.

“I suppose they will be cursing me after this result, but first and foremost I have to look after myself and I’m on loan to do a job for Partick Thistle.

“But it’s obviously disappointing to see the boys down there.

“I haven’t spoken to Mixu Paatelainen but my agent has been keeping me informed and I will be going back to Dundee United in January.

“I think my contract with Thistle is up on the 4th and then it’s a break.

“So I could go back there having helped Thistle to safety and go straight into a relegation battle.

“But that’s what happens in football. It’s a funny game.

“With a bit of luck I could help both of them but right now I am only concentrating on next week’s game with Motherwell and hopefully I can do the same.”

Kilmarnock's Mark Connolly was disgusted by his side’s defensive performance just a week after claiming a clean sheet at Celtic Park.

He said: "There is not a lot you can say about that performance. It was embarrassing.

"Every player on the pitch was not good enough especially after last week against Celtic when we worked so hard and did so well.

"We nullified Celtic to a few chances which is not an easy job and then coming up against Partick Thistle who were below us in the league and there were gaps all over the pitch.

"Nobody did their jobs and we gave them far too much time on the ball.

"It is frustrating.”
