MARK McGHEE has revealed Motherwell have launched a bid to keep Liam Grimshaw at the club until the end of the season.

The Manchester United reserve team captain joined the Steelmen on loan in the transfer window and has flourished in what is his first taste of competitive football.

The 20-year-old previous told SportTimes he wished to remain at Fir Park for what will be the remainder of his Old Trafford deal, and McGhee has said wheels are in motion to try and grant the Burnley boy's wish.

“Yeah, absolutely, and that is something we are working on at the moment,” said the Motherwell manager.

“Our intention is to try and keep him here. He is only 20 and he will only get better and better.

“He has unbelievable energy, it’s just any excuse for him to run, really. He is a Manchester United player and comes with their standards.

“When you talk about football intelligence, he’s coming with that level of football intelligence. He’s been coached well, prepared well and schooled well throughout his career.

“What you see is a player who understands the role he is playing.”

He added: “Going back to Sir Alex’s time, there weren’t any players coming out of there with that sort of arrogant look.

“Speak to anyone who knows any of those boys, even going back to David Beckham, won’t speak of arrogance and that’s the kind of players Manchester United breeds, and Liam is one of them.”

Speaking last month to SportTimes, Grimshaw explained how he is loving life in the Ladbrokes Premiership so much that he wishes to stay in claret and amber for the rest of the campaign.

“I’d definitely like to stay," he said.

“There’s been no discussions about staying longer yet and obviously we’ll need to have discussion just before the time, but I’m really happy up here.

“I’m training and playing, the lads are great, the management are brilliant and I want to hang about.”
