LEIGH GRIFFITHS believes he will bang in at least 30 goals this season for Celtic as he sets his sights on being the top goalscorer in the country.

And the striker has insisted that no matter who may arrive in the January transfer window at Celtic that he will not give up the striker’s jersey.

The forward hit the 20-mark with his 90th minute winner against Partick Thistle on Saturday afternoon and he believes that he can keep that goalscoring form going as Celtic chase a domestic Treble.

“I said last season that if I was playing every week then I would be the top goalscorer in the country and I hope I can show that now,” he said.

“I had set myself a target of hitting 20 before the turn of the year. I was a few days out with that one but that is only because of the injury I have had over the last couple of weeks.

“My next aim is to hit the 30-mark and so long as I stay injury free then I am confident I can achieve that.

“I have scored goals wherever I have been. Even on Saturday against Thistle I missed a couple of chances but I always felt confident that I would get another one and put it away. That is the way I feel just now – that I can score any time I am on the pitch.”

With the transfer window now open for business, Griffiths has admitted that he has mixed thoughts on whether or not Celtic need to add to their pool.

The striker has comfortably seen off competition from Nadir Ciftci this season but he has had to fight for his jersey more than once at Celtic.

“The squad here that we have is more than capable of going on and lifting the league but these are decisions that are entirely down to the manager, of course. It is his call to make on whether we need more fire power or whatever.

“This is a strong team and we are capable of going on and being successful with this squad.

“John Guidetti and Stefan Scepovic came in and tried to put me out the team last year and I had to bide my time. This summer Nadir came in and he has settled a wee bit better in the past few weeks but I started the season really well and I haven’t looked back.

“I got off to a flier and I don’t have any plans to slow down.

“I am looking to keep that up over the coming months. It is well documented that the manager and I had a few chats last season before I was back in the team.

“I feel as though I have done everything required of me. I am working hard on and off the pitch and I am getting the goals on it so I don’t plan on going anywhere.

“There are more goals in me this season.”
