RANGERS legend Brian Laudrup believes Scottish Cup success for Mark Warburton’s side would be just as big an achievement as nine-in-a-row was for his famous Light Blues outfit.

The Dane returned to Glasgow yesterday to help conduct the draw for the last-16 as the Gers were handed a home tie against Kilmarnock.

Rangers are currently three points clear at the top of the Championship and it is the second tier title that is the main objective for Warburton’s side in the coming months as the Gers look to finally complete their climb through the leagues and return to the top flight.

But former Ibrox hero Laudrup reckons the current squad have a chance to write their names into the history books if they can go all the way and lift the silverware at Hampden in May.

He said: “I think the players at Rangers right now will be desperate to win a trophy again. If it could be the Scottish Cup that would be for these guys as big as nine-in-a-row was for our team.

“Some of these players have been playing in the third and fourth tier and are now looking to get back to the top flight.

“So I think it would be a huge, huge success for these guys. Some of these young players haven’t been playing for that long and will realise that it’s a huge club.

“From what I’ve read, some of them have been surprised by the hype surrounding Rangers Football Club.

“Even the manager, Mark Warburton, has been surprised by it in a positive sense.”

If Rangers can lift the Scottish Cup this term, it would be a hugely significant achievement for Warburton and his newly assembled squad in their first season at Ibrox.

The support of the Light Blue legions will be crucial in the coming weeks and months and Laudrup is pleased to see the club back on the right track on and off the park.

He said: “When you look at it, we were used to playing in front of 50,000 and all of a sudden a couple of years back there was 12,000 or 14,000 people at Ibrox.

“I never experienced that. If we had trained at Ibrox we would have got 25,000 or 30,000!

“It is crazy that it went that way but I am just thrilled for the club and for all the people involved that the fans are coming back now. We have got a good manager a new type of football, it is an attractive style on the ground.

“They face a huge test against Kilmarnock. To play a Premiership side when you are playing in the second league, they have to prepare themselves and we will see how they go from there. It will be interesting.”
