RANGERS have moved six points clear at the top of the Championship after a 4-1 win over Livingston at Ibrox.

Mark Warburton’s side continued their fine scoring form to see off the Lions as they made it 19 goals in their last four league and cup outings.

Second-placed Falkirk will host Hibernian on Sunday aiming to cut the Gers’ advantage in the title race.

It took just eight minutes for Rangers to open the scoring at a freezing Ibrox as Danny Wilson netted his first goal since joining the club for a second time in the summer.

Martyn Waghorn saw his shot blocked by keeper Marc McCallum and, as the ball spun up into the air, Wilson was on hand to head home and give the Light Blues the perfect start.

Warburton’s side were dominant as the snow continued to fall, Lee Wallace seeing a right foot shot saved before Waghorn almost lobbed McCallum with an audacious effort from just inside the Livi half.

With 20 minutes on the clock, Rangers got their second of the afternoon and Waghorn his 26th of the campaign as he netted from the spot after Kenny Miller had been fouled by Declan Gallagher.

It almost went from bad to worse for David Hopkin’s side but they survived when Ben Gordon appeared to divert a Barrie McKay strike off the line with his hand and Wallace saw a deflected effort narrowly miss the target.

Rangers didn’t have to wait long to make sure of the points, though, as Miller rounded off another incisive move, converting from inside the area after Wallace and Jason Holt had split the Livi defence.

It was already a case of how many Rangers would win by and Martyn could have added to his tally twice in quick succession, the Englishman seeing a strike hit the post from just a couple of yards out after tricky wing play from McKay before a long-range header went just the wrong side of McCallum’s right hand post.

With five minutes of a one-sided first half remaining, Rangers got their fourth and Waghorn his second as he reacted quickest to lob McCallum with a delicate finish after a Wallace effort was blocked.

Rangers wasted little time in getting back on the attack after the break but it was Livi who would net the fifth goal of the game, substitute Liam Buchanan finding the bottom corner of Wes Foderingham’s net with a low drive from the edge of the area.

Rangers should have restored their four goal advantage on the hour mark but Nicky Law couldn’t beat McCallum after collecting a reverse pass from Waghorn and bearing down on the Livi goal.

With his side cruising towards another Championship triumph, Warburton turned to his bench as Gedion Zelalem and Nicky Clark replaced Law and Waghorn.

Rangers continued to dominate as Livi found themselves camped in their own half and Warburton made his final change as Holt was replaced by Dean Shiels.

The Light Blues couldn’t add to their tally, however, as James Tavernier curled an effort over from the edge of the box before Miller squandered a chance after a McKay cross.

In the final minute, Andy Halliday was denied from the spot by McCallum as the keeper pulled off a terrific stop to deny the midfielder his second penalty of the campaign.

Come the final blow of Craig Thomson’s whistle, it mattered little as Rangers clinched another win to extend their lead in the title race ahead of the Sunday showdown at the Falkirk Stadium.
