Channel 4 will show the British Grand Prix live as part of their new agreement as a broadcaster for Formula One.

The channel struck a three-year deal to replace BBC as Britain's terrestrial broadcaster as the corporation decided it was too costly to keep on their programming.

Sky Sports show all of the races live and will continue to do so with the 21-race calender for 2016.

Channel 4, who have already announced former McLaren driver David Coulthard as part of their new presenting team, will show 10 races live with highlights packages on the remaining grands prix - also confirming all events will be screened in high definition.

As well as the British Grand Prix at Silverstone on July 10, the new hosts will also screen live the second round of the 2016 championship in Bahrain.

Their next live race is at Spain's Circuit de Catalunya and they will also show the first-ever race in Azerbaijan live - with the European Grand Prix in Baku provisionally pencilled in for June 19.

Channel 4's head of F1 Stephen Lyle is pleased to have landed the British event, which will be the channel's fourth live event of the season.

"We are delighted to announce the full line up of races we will be showing live across 2016," he said.

"The British Grand Prix is a huge highlight of the sporting calendar and we're looking forward to covering all the action live from Silverstone this summer."

Another trio of European races in Hungary, Belgium and Italy will be shown live before grands prix in Malaysia and Mexico ahead of live coverage of the season finale in Abu Dhabi on November 27.
