CARLTON COLE has set his sights on a Celtic Treble before bringing the curtain down on his football career.

And he reckons a clean sweep of the Scottish domestic trophies would eclipse the Premiership medal he won as a squad player with title-winning Chelsea in 2005.

He also won promotion with West Ham when they went back into the English top flight. The 32-year-old English striker has signed with Ronny Deila’s side on an 18-month contract after spending almost six months as a free agent.

He said: “Winning a Treble with Celtic would absolutely be up there with any achievement I have had in the game – it is a huge thing.

“I would love to really weave my name into the fabric of this club. It is such a big club with a reputation all over Europe.

“Everyone knows the name of Celtic and you can come here and use it is a platform to do something. That is what I had in mind when I came here.

“Coming here and winning things was and is my motivation. It is why I wanted to come up here and play football.”

Cole also denied he was at Celtic to make easy money and declared his hunger to win trophies remained as strong as ever.

He added: “I am not here to sit about and see out my days until it is time to hang up my boots. I am still hungry.

“I have had some good times in the game and I think I have had a decent career, but I still have good years ahead of me. Over the next coming months I would like to be able to prove that.”

The striker, though, insisted he is still “a million miles” away from being at his best in terms of fitness and sharpness.

But he added: “It will come, but it is always hard to say exactly what you need before you hit a certain level.”

Given the manner in which Leigh Griffiths is currently netting the goals – the striker is sitting at 27 so far this season – Cole may have to be patient as he awaits further games time.

However, the striker believes that he and Griffiths can be the ideal fodder for one another.

The duo started in the recent Scottish Cup tie at Stranraer and the Englishman would ideally like more of the same.

“Leigh is a lot like other guys I have played well with like Craig Bellamy and Jermaine Defoe in that he is small and quick and loves to get in behind defenders,” said Cole.

“I do believe we could get a good partnership going. But his goals this season have been unbelievable. He is so sharp – even in training.

“He look like he could score every time he walks on the pitch and so much of that all comes down to confidence. Goals breed that, but he is has been superb this season, absolutely superb.”
