Abdul Osman is close to signing a new deal with Partick Thistle after telling the club he is happy with life at Firhill.

The Thistle captain is currently in discussions with the club with a view to extending his current contract, which expires at the end of the season.

He looks set to follow the example of Kris Doolan and Tomas Cerny by putting pen to paper again despite interest from several clubs in England.

He said: “We’re talking at the minute and I’m sure we’ll sort something. I’m quite happy here.

“There’s been a few clubs interested, but I’m just concentrating on my football at Partick Thistle and enjoying that.

“100% I’d prefer to stay, I’ve told the club that, so hopefully we’ll sort something soon.

“It’s a massive boost having the other boys signing up again and it shows that the club is trying to keep moving forward.”

As much as Osman is enjoying his football at Firhill, the paying punters certainly didn’t enjoy the spectacle of Saturday’s game at Inverness.

Osman was candid enough after the match to admit that it was one of the poorer games he’s been involved in, but Thistle were glad to return south with a point after the disappointment of last week’s defeat to Dundee.

The return of Osman for this fixture after sitting out last week through suspension was crucial, as he added the steel to the Thistle midfield that was conspicuous by its absence against the Dee.

“After last week and the bad result I think we were a bit nervous at the start, but as the game went on we grew into it and I think we done well in the end,” he said.

“The gaffer had a chat with us at half-time, told us to get back to playing football and asked us to step it up, which I think we did.

“I was delighted to be back involved after a hard watch last week.

“The clean sheet was a massive positive. When you come away from home the first thing you need to do is stay in the game as long as possible and then try to get a goal.

“It didn’t happen like that unfortunately, but defensively we did well as a team and we’ll take that into next week.

“I think we were a bit tentative early on after last week, but we were just trying to stay in the game first and foremost. It’s a tough place to come.

“We stayed in the game and in the second half we could have nicked it. We created a couple of opportunities but we’ll take a good point away from home.

“The conditions were the same for both teams so we don’t really look too much into that, there’s no excuses there, the pitch was quite decent but we just didn’t start too well which after last week that was understandable.

“I relish any type of game, but the game was scrappy and we stuck in there for a decent point in the end.

“We’ve gone up a position and that’s a positive. Any kind of result is good and if we can pick up the odd win and point here and there on the road it will see us alright.

“It’s tight but we’re trying not to think too much about the table, we’ll just take care of business and that will take care of itself.”
