The Ladbrokes Premiership weekend action featured two goalless draws but plenty of talking points. Here are five things we learned from the matches.

Glasgow Times:

1. There's life in Dundee United yet

After a frank team meeting on Tuesday, United surged to only their third win of the Ladbrokes Premiership season, cutting the deficit to 11 points with a 5-1 demolition of unpredictable Kilmarnock. United now face the three teams directly above Killie - Partick Thistle, Hamilton and Motherwell. With Paul Paton and Ryan Dow back in the team following long-term injury problems and Blair Spittal on form after four goals in four matches, could United pull off the great escape?

Glasgow Times:

2. Inverness might need another price initiative

Caley Thistle attracted their sixth-highest crowd of the season, 3,556 fans, for the visit of Partick Thistle with the help of a "pay what you can" scheme. The attendance was 400 higher than the same fixture in August but the new fans were subjected to a goalless draw which was described by Jags manager Alan Archibald as an "awful" game. Did anyone get value for money?

Glasgow Times:

3. Hearts need to keep 11 men on the park

Igor Rossi became the fifth Hearts summer signing to be sent off this season after he launched into a two-footed challenge during a goalless draw at Hamilton, following Juwon Oshaniwa, Blazej Augustyn, Gavin Reilly and Juanma Delgado. Robbie Neilson called on his players to learn what is and is not acceptable in the Scottish top flight.

Glasgow Times:

4. Michael O'Halloran is unaffected by transfer speculation

After being left out of the St Johnstone team in the wake of two failed bids by Rangers, O'Halloran returned in impressive fashion after the Ibrox club failed to follow up their initial interest. He looked lively throughout a 3-1 defeat at Celtic Park, setting up Steven MacLean's equaliser and putting a chance on a plate for Liam Craig, who saw Craig Gordon pull off a wonderful save.

Glasgow Times:

5. Gary Mackay-Steven is back on form

The former Dundee United winger has this season struggled to follow up a promising start to his Celtic career following his move almost a year ago. But he followed up his first league start for three months, in the midweek thrashing of Hamilton, with his first two goals of the campaign, slotting home twice past Alan Mannus.
