MARK WARBURTON is still hopeful he will add ‘one or two’ players to his Rangers squad before the close of the January transfer window next week.

The Ibrox boss has already completed short-term deals for keeper Maciej Gostomski and forward Harry Forrester this month and clinched pre-contracts with Accrington Stanley pair Matt Crooks and Josh Windass.

Warburton had hoped to have a new face in his squad before the Championship clash with Morton last night but the Gers haven’t yet been able to get another deal across the line.

Goals in either half from Kenny Miller and Barrie McKay ensured Rangers continued their upturn in form and re-established their five point advantage over title rivals Hibernian ahead of the visit of third-placed Falkirk this weekend.

Warburton was handed a blow last week after key target Toumani Diagouraga made the move from former club Brentford to Championship rivals Leeds United on a two-and-a-half-year contract.

St Johnstone forward Michael O’Halloran remains on Warburton’s radar as he bids to strengthen his squad for the second tier run-in and what he hopes will be a shot at the Premiership title next term.

But the Gers boss admits it can take time to get the right deals done as he looks to ensure his squad are in the best possible shape for the remainder of the campaign.

Warburton said: “Let’s be honest gents he (O’Halloran) is not our player. You know me by now. I’m not going to talk about other clubs’ players.

“We hope to get one or two in. Sometimes they happen quickly sometimes they take more time. We are getting there, making progress.

“We hope very much we can get one or two in before the close. It just takes time – whatever you are doing.

“Sometimes they just take time. January is always more difficult for a number of reasons.

“But Stewart (Robertson) and Andrew Dickson do a lot of work in the background and hopefully we will get something over the line.”
