Rangers starlet Andy Murdoch has revealed Ibrox duo Cammy Bell and Nicky Clark convinced him that Queen of the South was the perfect place to kickstart his career.

Murdoch, 20, was one of the few silver linings for the Glasgow giants last season as they failed to win promotion, making 21 appearances in the final three months of the campaign and claiming the club's young player of the year award prize.

Nevertheless, he has found opportunities hard to come by under Mark Warburton and spent the first half of this season on loan with League One outfit Cowdenbeath.

Following the expiry of that deal, he made the switch to Dumfries this month - after some sage advice from ex-Queens favourite Clark and Bell, a former teammate of Palmerston Park gaffer James Fowler at Kilmarnock.

Murdoch said: “I needed first team football and I wasn’t just going to sit about. The manager showed interest in me and last year I thought they were a very good footballing team.

“Cammy Bell knew James Fowler from Kilmarnock and knew Gav Skelton. He was telling me what a good coach the gaffer and Nicky Clark said good things about this club. They helped to turn my focus towards Queens.

“Training has been good, sharp and I am enjoying it so far. Hopefully this is a good move for me.

“I don’t think it will do you any good to be sitting in the bench or in the reserves. You definitely need to go out to develop. Hopefully I can get the first game under my belt and kick on from there.”
