PARTICK THITSLE fans watching the performances of Callum Booth since his arrival at Firhill might almost take his steady performances for granted.

The left-back has been a model of consistency since joining the club in January last year from Hibs, where he was in and out of the side and sent out on loan on no fewer than five occasions.

Having now found a home with Partick Thistle, he is delighted to have triggered a one-year contract extension after playing every minute for his club this season.

He hopes that he can continue to repay manager Alan Archibald’s faith in him, even if he sometimes shows him up at training.

“I was delighted to get it sorted, a bit of security is always nice,” Booth said.

“I’ve got another 18 months now and it lets me look to the future.

“I’ve played in every minute of every game so far this season, although I’ve still not scored! It’s getting closer though.

“It’s a good achievement. Touch wood, I’ve been lucky enough not to have picked up too many serious injuries and I’ve not been suspended yet either, so long may it continue.

“Partick Thistle have offered me the regular football I was looking for. Hibs was a wee bit stop-start, although at Raith Rovers I played every game that season which was a good season for me.

“I went back to Hibs and I was in-and-out of the team. I’d be playing one week and then be benched the next, so it’s good to have been here a year now and be playing every single week. I’m really enjoying it.

“Football is a confidence game and to be in the team every single week is obviously really important to a player. It gives me a great confidence boost.

“The manager has faith in me and has played me every time I’ve been available, and that gives you great belief and helps you settle at a club straight away.

“Everything is good on and off the park at the moment. I get on really well with all the boys and everything is going really well.

“The manager joins in at training now and again and puts in some good ball to be fair, better than me sometimes!

“If you look at our defensive record this season then it’s the fourth best in the league, and considering what position we are in the league that’s really good.

“We work hard all week on that side of the game, and with the manager being an ex-defender himself, I think a lot of the credit for that record must go to him.

“It’s a really good record and one we want to continue.”

Booth already has a Challenge Cup winner’s medal to his name after defeating Rangers in the final with Raith Rovers in 2014, but he feels that going to Hampden with Thistle would top that experience.

To achieve that, his side must first get past Dundee United in today’s Scottish Cup fifth-round clash at Tannadice, and he is taking confidence from the Jags’ record against them this season in the league.

He said: “It’s definitely feasible that we could get to the final, you saw last weekend with Ross County putting Celtic out of the League Cup what can happen.

“It’s a cup competition and on your day you can beat anyone. We’ve been doing really well the last three or four months, so hopefully we can get a good run going.

“Partick Thistle haven’t had a decent run in a few years, so there’s a chance to get into the quarter-finals on Saturday and it’s a really big game.

“We’ve got a good record against them this season but they’ll be trying to put that right and it’s going to be a hard game.

“They’re just off the back of a 5-1 victory, so it’s going to be a tough game and it would be brilliant to get through.”
