REPORTS of Taqele Naiyaravoro’s imminent departure from Glasgow Warriors began even before the Australian winger arrived at Scotstoun.

Now it appears that the 24-year-old really will be on his way at the end of the season after activating a break clause in his contract that allows him to-rejoin the New South Wales Waratahs.

Naiyaravoro signed a three-year deal with Glasgow last May, and won his first and so far only Wallabies cap four months later.

Suggestions that his international debut would permit him to get out of his Warriors contract proved wide of the mark, although his agent, Tyran Smith, cast doubt on the duration of his stay in Scotland by stating he would “honour his commitments...at least for the first year”.

The Fiji-born back put in his best showing for Glasgow in their home win over the Scarlets in the Champions Cup, scoring a hat-trick in their 43-6 win.

But that is the only occasion to date in which he has realised his considerable potential in a Warriors jersey, and he now appears set to return to his old club in Australia in the summer.

It is understood that the break clause in Naiyaravoro’s contract allowing him to leave after a year only comes into operation if it is the Waratahs he is leaving for.

A spokesperson for the Warriors declined to comment.
