Jordan Rhodes is hoping Middlesbrough can help him realise his Scotland dream after the £9 million striker netted his first goal for Boro.

The 26-year-old, who sealed a move to the Riverside from Blackburn Rovers at the start of the month, scored an injury-time equaliser in Tuesday's 1-1 draw at MK Dons after climbing off the substitutes bench.

Despite hitting 85 goals in 169 appearances for Rovers, the marksman has struggled to convince Gordon Strachan that he should spearhead the Scotland attack, with Rhodes having only been capped twice since September 2013.

The prolific forward, however, admits he is desperate to add to his 13 appearances for Scotland.

Rhodes said: "That's the ambition, I'd love to be Scotland's main striker one day but whether it will happen, who knows.

"I'll just keep working as hard as I can to warrant that recognition in the future."

Boro manager Aitor Karanka, meanwhile, admits he will consider whether Rhodes has done enough to earn a start against Leeds United on Monday following two substitute appearances.

Karanka said: "I have to analyse the game and analyse the opponent and it’s too early to say if he is going to play or not.

"I am really pleased because he is an amazing scorer and it's important that he has scored his first goal because when you play and you don't score and the team is not winning you can have pressure but scoring against MK Dons takes the pressure off him and has given us a massive point."
