GLASGOW Warriors’ PRO12 game against Munster next week has been moved to Rugby Park because there is a high risk that Scotstoun will still be unplayable. The match, which was due to have a Saturday tea-time kick-off, will now be played on Friday 19 at 7.35pm.

The Kilmarnock FC ground also hosted the Warriors’ last home game, the Champions Cup win over Racing 92 last month. The Munster game is being moved to the Friday because Kilmarnock have a home game the following day. Rugby Park, which also hosted Scotland’s Autumn Test against Tonga in 2014, has a 3G surface.

The Warriors have been unable to train on Scotstoun in recent weeks as heavy rain has continued to take its toll on the pitch. “It’s really disappointing that we have to move another fixture away from our home at Scotstoun,” Nathan Bombrys, Glasgow’s chief executive, said last night.

“We apologise for the inconvenience and disruption that this change will cause our supporters. Despite ongoing work being carried out on the pitch, the heavy storms continue to flood the pitch and there is a high risk that it will be unplayable for this fixture.

“We are working with Glasgow Life [the owners of Scotstoun] and Scottish Rugby to get the pitch at Scotstoun playable as soon as possible, and we’re also in discussions with Glasgow Life, Scottish Athletics and Sport Scotland about a long-term solution at Scotstoun, which could involve a 3G pitch.”

It is hoped that the early decision to switch the Munster match will help Glasgow Life restore Scotstoun to a playable state. Season tickets, and match tickets already sold for the match, will be valid for Rugby Park, which has a capacity of over 18,000. More than 6,500 tickets have been sold so far, and seating will be unreserved.
