Livingston footballers were locked out of the away changing room at half time on Saturday after Raith Rovers staff lost the key.
The Scottish Championship side left supporters baffled after there was a 10-minute delay in the game which they lost 2-0.
The West Lothian side were trailing 1-0 at Stark Park at the break but faced more problems as they struggled to get behind closed doors for a half-time team talk.
The club have now given an explanation in a statement on their website, labelling it an "unfortunate incident".
Mark Stewart and Aiden Connolly goals secured the win for Raith, who moved into fourth place in the Scottish Championship while Livingston remain in the relegation play-off spot.
The statement on their official website said: "Following enquiries from supporters, the club can confirm that our players were unable to gain entry to the away team dressing room for 10 minutes at half time.
"Raith Rovers staff were unable to find the dressing room key. That is why there was a delay in restarting the match. It was an unfortunate incident."
