HARRY FORRESTER admitted it would “live with him forever” if he could help Rangers to the Premiership after his winner against St Mirren brought the club to the cusp of the Championship title.

The 1-0 victory at Ibrox, courtesy of the substitute’s well taken goal minutes from time, coupled with Hibernian’s defeat at Dumbarton, has given Forrester and his team-mates an eleven point lead with ten games remaining.

Rangers are at home to Raith Rovers in the league tomorrow night, with Dundee in the Scottish Cup coming up on Saturday, and it is now difficult to see anything other than Mark Warburton’s side finishing top of the Championship with something to spare.

Forrester might only be at Ibrox for a couple of more months and if his visit is to be a short one then his hope is that he will look back years from now and say he played a part in the club’s return to top tier football.

The Englishman said: “I would love to be able to say I had played a part in Rangers getting to the Premiership. That is why I came here.

“You become a footballer because you want success. There were options in England for me, but there was no success there. That’s what I have here.

“So I took a short-term deal because maybe I could help get Rangers back to the Premiership, which is huge. If that happens then it will live with me forever.

“Saturday was the best feeling I have ever had in football. It was an important goal, an important three points for us. We worked hard all game and it was great to get out reward at the end.

“We go again on Tuesday against Raith Rovers and we will keep grinding out the wins.”

Forrester has not featured a lot so far and Warburton has not even discussed a long-term deal with him.

But he made a big impact at the weekend, as he scored a great goal past St Mirren goalkeeper Jamie Langfield who had pulled off a number of saves earlier in the game.

Forrester said: “When the ball came across, I just thought ‘make the keeper work’ and the last thing I wanted to do was blaze it over the bar. I wanted to hit the target and it was great to see it dropping in.

“To be fair, the boys put on a shift before I got on, they wore them down and it is up to the subs to get on and make an impact.

“Saturday was all about winning. I think everyone knows what this stage of the season is all about. It’s the business end and if that is the way we are going to get the three points then so be it. We will take that.

“Of course, we want to score three, four, five goals, but winning is everything right now.”

Rangers still have a bit of work to do. Hibs will hope their main rivals will stumble at least once before the two sides meet at Easter Road, although even Alan Stubbs admitted his team’s title dream was all but over.

It is now Rangers’ to lose and Saturday’s match against an in-form Dundee team will give another indication of what level Warburton's squad are at.

Forrester said: “Whatever happens after this, whether we win the league and Scottish Cup, which we are still in, that would be great. We just need to get over the line. We are not there yet.”
