RANGERS booked their place in the Scottish Cup semi-finals with a 4-0 win over Dundee at Ibrox this afternoon.

Goals from Harry Forrester, Jason Holt, Andy Halliday and Lee Wallace clinched a deserved triumph for Mark Warburton’s side as they set up a second Hampden date this term.

The Gers went into the cup clash on the back of a fine run of form that has seen them move to the brink of the Championship title.

And they turned in one of their most impressive performances of the campaign to see off their Premiership visitors in stunning style.

After sitting out the win over Raith in midweek, Kenny Miller and Barrie McKay returned to the Gers’ starting line-up, while Dominic Ball was brought in as the midfield anchor.

It took Rangers just 13 seconds to spark wild celebrations at Ibrox as Forrester fired Warburton’s side ahead with their first attack of the afternoon.

The forward scored in his last two outings as he helped the Gers to wins over St Mirren and Raith Rovers and he made it a hat-trick of goals as he robbed Kevin Holt and weaved his way into the box before blasting the ball beyond keeper Scott Bain.

It was a dream start for Rangers and they dominated the opening stages as they looked to double their advantage and take another step towards Hampden.

James Tavernier saw his effort saved at the near post before Holt made another error from a Forrester cross as Dundee scrambled the ball to safety.

Dundee were on the back foot and only had a low shot from Gary Harkins to show for their efforts as Warburton’s side continued to impress.

Rangers would create another handful of chances before Dundee got themselves into the game and finished the first half in the ascendancy.

Darren O’Dea had to be alert to clear a Miller cross after he combined well with McKay down the left before Bain pulled off an impressive stop to deny Tavernier as his free-kick curled towards the top corner.

Miller tried his luck from distance and was denied by Bain before Wes Foderingham blocked a Paul McGowan shot as Dundee looked for a leveller late in the first half.

Just seconds after the restart, the task got even tougher for Paul Hartley’s side as Rangers doubled their advantage and Ibrox once again roared.

It was another crisp move from Warburton’s side and it was Holt who finished it off as he headed home a Miller cross from close range.

Rangers were now well on course for a semi-final spot and they didn’t have to wait long to clinch it as Halliday’s low free-kick from the edge of the area found the corner of the net.

Rangers were aiming to add a further shine to the score line and they almost made it 4-0 when Miller flicked a Forrester pass into the path of Wallace, but Bain rushed out to deny the Light Blues skipper.

The next cheers from the Ibrox crowd were for Forrester and McKay as they were given a rousing reception when replaced by Dean Shiels and Nicky Clark.

Rangers were comfortable as Dundee toiled and Warburton made his final change of the afternoon as Nicky Law took over from Holt in the middle of the park.

There was still time for Rangers to hammer home their advantage as Wallace capped a fine showing with a well taken goal with six minutes left.

The left-back burst into the Dees area and slotted the ball home as Gers fans celebrated a convincing and deserved win for their side.
