Ronny Deila has insisted that Leigh Griffiths will take no comfort from being the top scorer in the country this season if Celtic do not win the league.

The forward has made himself an integral part of Deila’s squad this term and with 34 goals in all competitions, he looks certain to stay at the top of the scoring charts.

Griffiths will be expected to be among those named for the Player of the Year when the personal accolades are handed out at the end of the season, but Deila has insisted that no-one at the club will take any solace in personal glory if the results on the pitch do not go Celtic’s way.

“Leigh has had a great season but I know that he won’t think that way unless we win the league,” said Deila. “That is what it is all about.

“Without the title, goals mean nothing. It is the same with any success that you have as an individual.

“It is not about what you can achieve as one but what we can do together. We all know that.

“That is why these remains few months are so important for us.”

Meanwhile, Celtic head into Saturday’s game against Partick Thistle at Firhill this weekend with the pressure on.

Aberdeen’s victory on Tuesday night over the Jags has meant there is just one point between the teams at the top of the table and Deila is wary of taking anything for granted ahead of the alternative Glasgow derby.

“We know that it won’t be easy,” he said. “But we are working hard and we believe in what we are doing.

“There is a lot of football still to be played between now and the end of the season.

“It is up to us to go out and show that we are good enough to win the title. It is the aim of the squad and has been the same ambition throughout the whole season.”
