RANGERS captain Lee Wallace has been reassured he is 'knocking on the door' of the Scotland team, according to Stuart McCall.

The left-back was left out of both squads for the upcoming double header against Czech Republic as Hull’s Andrew Robertson and Celtic wonderkid Kieran Tierney were called up.

His omission has caused a stir among the Rangers support, with Ibrox boss Mark Warburton also proclaiming his surprise at the decision.

However, speaking to SportTimes, former Gers boss and current Scotland first team coach McCall has hinted the Light Blues skipper could be included when the Scotland team reconvenes to play Italy and France in May and June if he continues to be a stand out for the Championship leaders.

He said: “I think for Lee he has been very consistent this season.

“But if you look at our squad, Gordon’s only gone for two out and out full-backs in Robertson, who is a stalwart now, and the boy Tierney. At 18, it’s a good chance to have a look at him and he’s been playing consistently well for Celtic.

“I think Lee can consider himself unfortunate not to be involved, but Derek McInnes will be saying the same about Graeme Shinnie.

“Certainly left-back is looking healthier. Lee has been in the squad can only keep carrying on doing what he’s doing and he’s doing it well.

“He’s been discussed here already. He’ll continue doing what he’s doing.”

McCall added: “I’m sure Lee will be pushing for the next squad.

“You could say he was one of the ones that was almost in, it’s just Gordon wanted to have a look at the young lad from Celtic.

“We’ve had Lee before and have seen his character. Gordon is a big one for getting to know people and having a sit down with them. He wants to get into the players’ heads and see what they are like as characters.

“It’s not just how you are on the pitch it’s about how you are in the group. That gives Gordon a chance to see Tierney.

“He’s certainly on the radar. He’s knocking on the door and needs to keep on playing as he is.”

Rangers winger Barrie McKay also missed out on the senior team, instead having to content himself with a place in Ricky Sbragia’s Under-21s.

And McCall said: “Barrie is obviously in the Under-21s. Gordon went out to watch the u21s over four or five days the last time and I know John McGinn caught his eye in the training sessions, you get to see the character.

“When was the squad was named McGinn was also prominent in the Edinburgh derbies. It’s a different position, though.

“Again, McKay is different because we have so many wide players and it would probably be better for the manager to have him be in the U21s and stand out there. When you play there you have to make your mark.

“I think during the last u21 game Barrie had a little bit of tonsillitis and he didn’t make a mark on it. But when you get the opportunity, especially at the home games, you need to impress.”
