MICHAEL O’HALLORAN will cherish his Championship medal when he is presented with his prize in the coming weeks.

But the Rangers striker will quickly hand it over to his dad for safe keeping and share the moment with the man who has helped him on the road to glory.

Victory for Mark Warburton’s side away to Raith Rovers on Saturday, coupled with a Hibernian slip-up at St Mirren, will confirm the Light Blues’ status as second tier champions.

For O’Halloran, it would be another significant success and come just weeks after he made the switch to Ibrox from St Johnstone. As expected, his time in the Championship will be short-lived.

It will be an achievement to celebrate for Warburton and his players, and O’Halloran will ensure his dad, Michael, will have a memento to mark the accomplishment.

The 25-year-old lifted the Scottish Cup with the Saints two years ago and is now on the brink of adding another medal to his collection.

The job is not complete, but O’Halloran, his team-mates and Gers fans won’t have to wait much longer to toast the title.

“For me, it would be massive to win the league,” O’Halloran said. “As a kid growing up, you dream of winning leagues and getting medals and to be able to do it this season would be brilliant.

“It is not done yet and we will take it one game at a time and when it comes it comes.

“We will focus on each game and hopefully get the job done. You want it done as quickly as possible to get over the line and then the fans can enjoy it as well.

“I gave my Scottish Cup medal to my dad and he takes care of it. He has got it somewhere safe.

“I have got my shirt from the final framed and I will get that put up in the house. I gave my dad the medal, though.

“I think I will do the same with this one. He has done a lot for me. I like to keep my shirts and hang them up so my dad can have this medal as well to look after.”

Once the Championship crown has been clinched, Rangers will be able to focus their attentions on the upcoming Hampden double-header against Peterhead and Celtic.

It has been an encouraging start to life at Ibrox for O’Halloran, who had to wait until the final hours of the transfer window to finally seal a dream move from McDiarmid Park.

The forward has played his part in helping Rangers to the brink of title success, and he is confident there is plenty more to come in Light Blue.

He said: “I am happy with how I have done so far. I am getting used to the style of play here and I am settling in. It is going to take time to fully show my potential but I am loving it.

“It is a great club, the people have been great with me and the fans have been brilliant as well.

“I have come in when the team is flying at the top of the league and we will hopefully push on and win it and have a good end to the season. I will keep coming in and working hard and trying to improve myself.

“It might take a few months to show my real potential but I am working hard every day to improve and impress the manager.

“We think in the dressing room we are more than capable of going into next season and challenging.

“That is the way we have got to think when you are at a big club like this. But we are taking one game at a time and we will cross that bridge when we come to it.”

If Rangers are to produce a challenge for the Premiership title in their first campaign back in the top flight, boss Warburton will have to add strength and depth to his Gers ranks during the summer shutdown.

Having overhauled his squad and enjoyed an impressive strike rate in his transfer dealings to date, Warburton will be building upon solid foundations in the coming months.

And O’Halloran has been impressed with the quality of the group he has joined as Rangers have pulled away at the top of the table.

He said: “There are some excellent players here and you can see that with the level of consistency they have shown over the course of the season.

“There is a good mix of younger players and the players in the squad with a lot of experience, which is really important. It makes for a good team and there is a good team spirit here as well. They have made me feel really welcome.

“There are a lot of boys of a similar age but we all get on really well and there is a good camaraderie about the squad.

“There is a good relationship with the staff as well and they are great with the boys. It is a good environment to work in, everyone wants to work hard for each other and we want to go and win things for Rangers.”

The Ibrox squad will be presented with their title medals in the coming weeks – and have their sights set on cup glory - but there are personal accolades up for grabs as well for Warburton’s side.

It says much about the consistency and performance levels of the Light Blues this term that there are several candidates to be crowned Player of the Year this term.

Winger Barrie McKay is set to be in the running for the main prize and Young Player gong and O’Halloran is pleased to see his fellow wide man getting the plaudits his showings deserve.

O’Halloran said: “Barrie is a great player, he is still young and I think he can go to the top.

“It would be hard to pick a Player of the Year because I have not seen every game but even since I have come in there have been a lot of contenders. I couldn’t pick anyone out because there have been so many good performances.

“I have been really impressed with Barrie, he has been flying this season. He has got himself in the team and stayed there.

“He has performed well and been really influential for the team so it has been a fantastic season for him.”
