SCOTLAND’S friendly with Denmark last night gave manager Gordon Strachan the chance to cast his eye over some untested talent at international level.

After Thursday’s win in Prague offered the national team boss the chance to give debuts to Kenny McLean, Tony Watt and Paul Caddis, this outing saw a further three maiden caps dished out, as well as a first Hampden bow for an unfamiliar face.

Here’s how SportTimes rated their contributions.

KIERAN TIERNEY 8 – Was keen to get forward. Saved an almost certain goal when Yussuf Yurary Poulsen burst through after being played onside by Grant Hanley. Despite the Leipzig man having a five yard head start, the teenage full-back’s acceleration brought him roaring into the box to make a crucial clearance.

We have become used to seeing the Motherwell lad bomb up and down the left flank in green and white without a care. Even the prospect of his international debut was not enough to put him off his stride as he galloped forward in front of the north stand in the first half.

Was substituted at half-time for club-mate Charlie Mulgrew as Gordon Strachan tinkered with his system. Get used to seeing this young man in dark blue over the coming campaign.

JOHN McGINN 8 – The tenacious Hibernian midfielder saw out the full 90 minutes on what was an encouraging maiden outing for his country. The 21-year-old has often been likened to Scott Brown in his still and tenacity, and the former St Mirren man got the chance to enjoy a full game next to the Scotland captain on his 50th outing.

Was part of an important double act that nullified Tottenham playmaker Christian Eriksen, a job well done that was underlined with a crunching but spectacular tackle midway through the second half.

Linked play well and one who most definitely has a long international career ahead of him.

LIAM BRIDCUTT 5 – The man on loan at Leeds United from Sunderland replaced Shaun Maloney on 69 minutes for his Hampden debut three years after his only other appearance in a Scotland jersey away to Serbia. Slotted in at the base of the midfield, showed energy but was lucky to stay on the park after a wild lunge on Celtic’s Erik Sviatchenko.

OLIVER BURKE 3 – On for Matt Richie with eight minutes to play, the Nottingham Forest winger was another former Under-19 graduate to be given a run out at Hampden. Had a rapid dash to the byeline and delivered a great late ball that almost squeezed in.
