YES, says Gary Keown

THEY have to. It is as simple as that.

Certainly, it is quite alarming that no-one outside of Griffiths has managed to contribute a goal tally in double figures, but there are surely still worthwhile attacking options even if he is going through a dry spell.

Patrick Roberts has created a positive impression in recent times and looks like he could emerge as the saviour of the season. Whether the manager, Ronny Deila, likes it or not, he has a matchwinner within his squad in Kris Commons and has to try to find a way to get the best out of him as the season reaches boiling point.

Commons is tried and tested in this arena. He is a man capable of delivering.

Of course, it is quite incredible that a side possessing Celtic’s resources should be embroiled in a title battle at this stage of the season. Scandalous, really. That they should be so reliant in one player, in Leigh Griffiths, to provide goals is equally ridiculous.

There is no replacement for us. Carlton Cole, a bizarre signing, has been posted missing. Colin Kazim-Richards, another bizarre signing, has only managed one goal from his limited opportunities. It came against East Kilbride.

Deila has to persevere with Griffiths in the hope he finds his shooting boots again. Should he continue to struggle, there are others around him capable of producing.

If they don’t, they should all be out the door in the summer. Maybe then, the likes of Scott Allan and Ryan Christie might get a chance.

NO, says Alison McConnell

The simple answer is Celtic cannot cope when Leigh Griffiths is off the boil. Take out the 26 league goals he has chipped in with and where would Celtic be this season?

It is extraordinary that no other Celtic player has hit double figures this season - and that tally is not just taking in league duty but gathered from all competitions.

The onus for goals this season has fallen firmly at the feet of Griffiths. And that over-reliance creates a problem.

Now, as he goes off the boil there is no-one to whom Deila can reliably turn and look for goals.

Nadir Ciftci had been shipped out to Turkey after an inauspicious time at the club and neither Carlton Cole nor Colin Kazim-Richards inspire any faith in their capabilities.

Ryan Christie was recalled from his year-long loan spell with Inverness at Christmas but has barely been seen – ditto Scott Allan who has never had a sustained run in the team this season.

As Celtic toil now for goals as Griffiths goes through a barren patch, questions need to be asked about the standard and quality of the players introduced during two transfer windows.

It is not the only questions that will be asked if Celtic fail to prevail in these remaining six games of the league campaign.
