MICHAEL O’HALLORAN has lapped up the adulation of the Light Blue legions as Rangers have clinched the Championship crown and Petrofac Training Cup in the last week.

Now the striker will join the Gers fans in cheering on Mark Warburton’s side from the stands as they bid for Scottish Cup glory against Celtic on Sunday.

After playing his part in a double successes at Ibrox and the National Stadium as Dumbarton and Peterhead were beaten to give Rangers two medals, O’Halloran will miss out on the biggest 90 minutes of his Light Blues career so far.

The 25-year-old is cup-tied for the Old Firm showdown on Sunday after turning out for former club St Johnstone earlier in the competition.

But he will now head to Hampden to offer his support from the other side of the white line as Warburton’s side look to clinch a final spot.

O’Halloran said: “The atmosphere in the dressing room after the game was buzzing.

“The fans were terrific as well, they backed us throughout the game and it was a good performance. We were delighted.

“I don’t think I have ever seen a final with that big a support and it being as one sided.

“They backed us the full game and Tuesday night and Sunday was brilliant. We are just happy that we delivered for them.

“I am obviously disappointed [I can’t play against Celtic] but I have had time to let it sink in.

“I will be there supporting the lads. We have had a game at Hampden now so hopefully we can go out and do the business.

“It would have been disappointing if we hadn’t won on Sunday but we took Tuesday night and then Sunday one game at a time. We will look forward to Celtic now.

“I still train with the boys and make sure my fitness is right because we have still got four league games to come.

“It is frustrating but it is part and parcel of being a footballer. I will work hard this week and be ready for the next league game.”

With O’Halloran and Billy King unable to face Ronny Deila’s side, boss Warburton will hope to field the same side that brushed aside the Blue Toon 4-0 at the weekend.

Kenny Miller completed the scoring late on as he continued his fine run of form by netting his 18th goal of an impressive campaign for the Light Blues.

Many Gers fans thought O’Halloran would be handed a start to afford his 36-year-old strike counterpart a chance to rest ahead of the Old Firm showdown.

But the former Saints star had no qualms about missing out as he backed Miller to play a key role at the National Stadium once again this weekend.

O’Halloran said: “I am always prepared to start every game and as a sub you have got to be ready when called upon.

“My preparation was the same and I was ready to go when the manager put me on. Luckily we were two goals up at the time so it was nice to come on.

“Kenny is brilliant and since I have been here he has been different class for us, not just on the park but on the training pitch every day as well.

“His experience, his quality and his intelligence is great to see. He has been great for us and I can’t speak highly enough of him. He will be very influential against Celtic.

“He has still got a good few years left in him yet. He is a good player and a good person to have around the squad and the dressing room.”
