KENNY MILLER admits his emotions almost got the better of him as Rangers celebrated a memorable victory over Celtic at Hampden.

Mark Warburton’s side booked their place in the Scottish Cup final as they edged out their Old Firm rivals 5-4 on penalties.

Rangers were twice pegged back as Erik Sviatchenko and Tom Rogic cancelled out goals from Miller and Barrie McKay.

But they emerged victorious at the end of the spot-kicks as Rogic missed the decisive effort from twelve yards to send the Light Blue legions wild.

Miller watched the drama unfold from the stands after being replaced by Nicky Clark at the end of another impressive 90 minute performance from the striker.

And the 36-year-old relished the moment to join in the celebrations as Rangers moved another step closer to a unique Treble this term.

Glasgow Times:

Miller said: “I think that is the most emotional I have ever been after a game – because I knew what it meant to the players, the coaches, the manager, the fans, to everybody at the club who have put in a lot of effort to get us back on track.

“For me it was a fantastic day – I have never really felt like that. I have always been one for celebrating and being happy, but today was emotional for me at the end. It was great to be involved in.

“There is no point in beating Celtic in the semi-final and then not going on and winning it. We need to go on and win it now.

“But that is in four, five games’ time. Everything now is about Wednesday night. We need another good performance and another win, hopefully.

“It was torture [sitting on the bench]…just torture. You are hitting every ball, header, clearance. We got there in the end.”

It was a day to remember for Rangers as they turned in their finest performance of the campaign to set up a final showdown with Championship compatriots Hibernian next month.

Warburton’s side were on the front foot from the off and were deserved winners at the end of a rollercoaster afternoon at the National Stadium.

It was a result that few outside of Ibrox would have seen coming but Miller was not surprised with the manner of the victory as the Gers controlled the tie for large swathes with a number of superb individual showings.

He said: “It is right up there. Obviously there was a lot of talk before this game about how far we are behind - and anything can happen on any given day – but I thought we showed today that we are more than a match for them.

“We imposed our game on them from the first whistle, we passed it well, and we got our rewards with the first goal.

“We knew they still posed a threat, they’ve got good players, but we showed that we’ve got good players, and we knew that we could nullify them.

“No [I am not surprised by our dominance], to be honest. We wanted to go out and play the same we can.

“The manager has done a lot of talking this week about how it was just another game, and that we should go out there and play the same way, that nothing should change in that regard.

“We knew that we would have to run harder, faster and longer, but we knew that if we did the right things we could cause them problems and get opportunities to score.

“So the game went pretty much how we thought it would go. We are disappointed to lose the goals that we did, but over the piece I thought we deserved it.”
