KENNY MILLER is confident Barrie McKay can continue to improve for Rangers and stake a claim for a Scotland call-up.

The winger has been named the Light Blues’ Young Player of the Year after a string of superb showings for Mark Warburton’s side this term.

Miller first worked with McKay when he trained at Murray Park during his time in the MLS with Vancouver Whitecaps and has seen him flourish into a key player in Warburton’s squad in recent months.

And the Gers striker believes there is plenty more to come from the 21-year-old in the coming seasons as he looks to continue his career on an upward trajectory under Warburton’s guidance.

He said: “At the start of the season I looked at him and felt we could get more from him, but he’s got better and better.

“I think that goes hand in hand with the confidence and belief the management have in him.

“He’s a character who needs to be given the arm around the shoulder more than a boot up the ****. But he’s blossomed under the gaffer.

“He was named our Young Player of the Year but he’s another one who could have won the main award he’s been so outstanding. Just look at his goal and performance against Celtic who are the best team in the country.

“If he can do it against them then there is no reason why he can’t kick on next year and get even better.

“He’s going through the steps to become a full international.

“He’s been through all the youth teams and into the 21s, not playing regularly for the biggest club in the country. Being picked for Scotland is the next step for him.

“If he’s performing at international level for the 21s and also for Rangers then the next step is to get that full call-up.

“I have said it before, I don’t think many players in the country have what Barrie McKay has got. He’s got attributes which could definitely be a benefit to the team.”
