Leigh Griffiths still lives in fear of stepping out of line at Celtic Park – and being shown the door as a consequence.

The striker received a final warning from the club when he was admonished in court after being filmed among Hibs fans at an Edinburgh derby singing an offensive song about then Hearts player Rudi Skacel.

It was an incident that infuriated the club as well as a large section of the Celtic support. The striker put the indiscipline down to immaturity but believes it was the catalyst for him to change his ways.

And despite establishing himself in Ronny Deila’s side with 38 goals this season, he still believes he is one indiscretion away from an exit.

“What I did, going to Tynecastle that day, wasn’t acceptable and that was spelled out to me,” he said.“I knew it myself, regardless of being a Hibs fan I am a professional footballer first and foremost and you can’t be doing things like that.

“I have learned from it, I keep my head down these days. Listen, it was a daft thing to do, I lost my mind for 24 hours.

“I should have watched the game in the house, I shouldn’t have been anywhere near Tynecastle that day but as long as you learn from your mistakes and I think I have.

“I wanted to see my team win but ultimately it almost cost me my job.

“After that meeting I had at Celtic Park where I was told in no uncertain terms, ‘you are on your final warning’ that kind of hit it home,” he said. “At a massive club like Celtic you can’t be stepping out of line like I did.

“I have not looked back since.”

Meanwhile, Griffiths has also called upon the club to be swift in implementing a change of manager when Ronny Deila bows out at the end of the season.

“He is not going to have a lot of time,” he said. “The boys only have just over four weeks off and then we are straight back into it.

“The qualifiers start in early July and so he isn’t going to have a lot of time. When the current manager came in he didn’t have a lot of time for the Champions League but the new boss will be well up to speed to what this group of players can do.

“He will also have an idea of who he wants to bring in to help the boys. We will look to get into the Champions League and if we do it then great and if not we will look to have a successful campaign in the Europa League.”
