Mark McLaughlin has called upon Clyde’s players to give absolutely everything to drag the club into League One through the playoffs.

The Bully Wee secured their place in the top four with Saturday’s win over Stirling Albion, and they will now take on Elgin City tonight at Broadwood in the first-leg of the playoff semi-final.

Experienced campaigner McLaughlin is gearing his teammates up for one last push to get Clyde moving back up the divisions to where he feels they belong, asking them to make sure they have no regrets when they leave the pitch this evening.

“We’ve got four games now to go and win promotion, and we don’t want to look back after these games and think we could have pushed ourselves maybe that 5% more,” he said.

“We have to go out there and lay it on the line, and come off that park knowing that we couldn’t have done anything else.

“If we do that, and a wee bit of lady luck didn’t go our way, then there isn’t much you can do about that. But if we give it everything we’ve got, then hopefully we can take a lead up to Elgin on Saturday.

“Our sole objective this season is to get promotion, and we can only do it now through the play-offs, so we are fully focused on achieving our goal starting on Tuesday night. We’ll be ready.”

McLaughlin believes that Clyde have the talent and the desire to go all the way in the playoffs, but he recognises how important it will be to put themselves in a good position ahead of the trip to Borough Briggs at the weekend.

He also feels that despite League One side Cowdenbeath carrying the favourites tag in the playoffs given they currently play at a higher level, the Blue Brazil won’t have it their own way against any of the three League Two sides.

He said: “We know that Elgin will give us a tough game, every time we’ve played them this season they have been tough games, so it should make for a good spectacle.

“We’ll go into the game confident though and we believe that we can get a result.

“It was a disappointing time when we fell away from challenging for the title, but credit to East Fife, they’ve had a great season.

“It’s up to us now, the same as Elgin will be thinking and Queen’s Park as well, to go and grab our chance for promotion.

“Cowdenbeath will probably think they are the favourites because they have so-called better players who play at a higher level, but Queen’s Park won’t be an easy game for them.

“They’re a good side and they’ve been great against us this season, but we don’t look any further than Tuesday night. It’s a tough game and then a tough trip up there again on Saturday, but we’ll be looking to get a lead to take up there. Going up there without a lead will be difficult, so we need to take a positive result if we can.

“They will be thinking if they can get a result against us as they have done this season already, then they can rely on their home form which has been fantastic.

“It’s all to play for, and we have to be at the top of our game.”
