PARTICK ROBERTS has his set his sights on getting Celtic back to the Champions League.

The on-loan Manchester City winger has been superb since his move north with his best day coming as the club sealed their fifth title in a row thanks in no small part to his two superb first-half goals.

There remains some dubiety whether he will be free for the European qualifiers, the England under-19 team have a summer tournament, but it was clear where his priorities.

Roberts said: "I came into this club and I’ve always wanted to get into the Champions League and play.

“It’s a big ambition of mine and Celtic haven’t been there for the last couple of years. To get back there would be great for the club and unbelievable for me.

“To perform well in that as well as the league and the cups is what I want from a good season."

And it is not only in Europe where Roberts wants success.

He said: "I want this just to be a start. I don’t want to go backwards.

“My full intention is to go on and try and win a Treble next season, that would be good for us and good for me."

Roberts has thoroughly enjoyed his months at Celtic, even if that miss against Rangers has not quite left him.

He is a talent and it will be interesting to see how he can light up Scottish football over a full season.

Roberts said: "This experience has been even better than I thought it might be.

“It’s good playing football, but to play in front of all of these fans, I knew I had to perform well or else I wouldn’t be playing.

“As soon as I stepped through the door, I had intentions of getting into the side and staying there. The main thing is to develop in my career.

“It’s good to have young players. Callum McGregor and Kieran Tierney have been unbelievable. I really enjoy playing with them and I also get on great with them at the training ground, it’s good to have that relationship when you know what each other is doing on and off the pitch.

“We need to win games for this club and that’s what we aim to do."

Roberts was a Deila signing and paid a warm tribute to his soon to be former boss.

He said: "The manager has shown a lot of faith in me. He came to me when I was at City and expressed to me that he wanted me in his side.

“That is always good when a manager wants you and wants to play you. When I came here, he was patient with me and plain in what he wanted me to do.

“He’s had faith in me ever since and I have nothing but pure respect for him. I thank him a lot for what he has done for me.“
