KENNY MILLER admits the capture of Joey Barton would be a ‘massive coup’ for Rangers as boss Mark Warburton pursues a deal for the midfielder.

The former Manchester City, Newcastle United and QPR star is available on a free transfer this summer and has an offer on the table from the champions.

Barton travelled to Glasgow on Saturday and was given a tour of Ibrox and Murray Park as Warburton looks to convince him to reject a contract extension at Burnley.

The 33-year-old then had a round of golf with Miller at a charity day on Sunday and quizzed the Light Blues striker about Rangers as he continues to consider his options.

Barton was named in the Championship Team of the Year as he helped the Clarets clinch a return to the Premier League earlier this month.

And Miller hopes an agreement can be reached to bring him back north of the border to play his part in Rangers’ bid for the Premiership title next term.

"We were at a golf day and it was just a coincidence that he was there as well," he told Sky Sports.

"It was a great day for it and we had a good chat on the way around.

"It's no secret that the club are trying to persuade him to come to the club and hopefully we've done enough.

"The manager has never talked down the size of the job here and the size of the club so it would be a big thing if we could bring a player of that quality to this football club.

"He's at the stage of his career where he has the potential to play Premier League football and if we can get that signing over the line, it would be a massive coup for the club.

"He seemed genuinely interested and keen to know what the club was about. He knows the size of Rangers but he seemed interested in the subtle things about the club too."
