SCOTT ALLAN insists he has no regrets over his switch to Celtic – because he has improved as a player during a frustrating first campaign at Parkhead.

The midfielder made just three starts for the Hoops after making the move from Hibernian last summer at the end of a lengthy transfer saga between the Easter Road outfit and Rangers.

Allan struggled for match action as he found himself behind a long line of forward thinking players in Ronny Deila’s squad during a successful Premiership season.

But the 24-year-old believes he has benefitted from his time in Glasgow as he looks to make a name for himself next term.

Allan said: “People will look at this season as another one out of my career when I could have been playing every week, but I felt it was the right thing to do at the time.

“I have developed other things in my game that I wouldn’t have done had I stayed in the Championship with Hibs and hopefully that will stand me in good stead for next season.

“I have a far better work ethic than I had at Hibs. When you are doing well every week, you get into a comfort zone and can go through the motions in training, so when you are not playing it keeps you hungry and you work even harder.

“It was tougher at West Brom as I was away from home and I didn’t have my friends or family around me.

“It’s been tough in terms of football as I’ve worked hard every day and not got the reward with a run of games. When I played against St Johnstone recently, I wanted to have a bigger impact when I came in but when you haven’t played for that long it wasn’t to be.”

Allan will hope it is second time lucky at Parkhead as he bids to put a mixed campaign behind him and finally showcase his talents in green and white.

And the playmaker is confident he can impress new Hoops boss Brendan Rodgers as Celtic set their sights on six-in-a-row this summer.

“I can’t wait to be honest and hopefully I can get some good pre-season games under my belt, get into the team and have a run,” he told the Celtic View.

“The fans have seen nowhere near my best. As I said it took some time for me to get into my stride at Hibs and they saw the best of me and hopefully it will be the same here.

“It’s a fresh start and you want to make an impact on the new manager. Everyone is at the same level of fitness so there will be a few players including myself who will want to catch the new gaffer’s eye.”
