Real Madrid winger Cristiano Ronaldo has backed Jose Mourinho to bring the good times back to Manchester United - but has dismissed returning to Old Trafford.

Mourinho is expected to be unveiled at the man in charge at the Theatre of Dreams today after three days of intense talks with the ManU hierarchy.

The Red Devils won the FA Cup under Louis van Gaal this season but missed out on a place in the Champions League, contributing to the Dutchman losing his job.

Ronaldo played under Mourinho at Real Madrid and expects him to transform the team's playing style.

He said: "I think it's good. If it's something United wanted I think it's good.

"I hope Manchester United get back to being what they were because it's an impressive club but in the last years they lacked an identity a bit.

"And it hurts me seeing United like that because it's a club that I carry in my heart. I wish Mourinho can carry them back to the top."

The 31-year-old, though, has told all other clubs to "forget" about trying to sign him as he feels that he is already at the best club in the world.

He added: "Right now, yes I am happy and I want to stay at this club. I don't see any other club that is better than Real Madrid. If you weigh things up there is no better club.

"So all other clubs can forget about me because Real Madrid is the best."

Meanwhile, another of Mourinho's former player has sent his strongest message yet that he's ready to sign on at Old Trafford.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic, a free agent from Paris St-Germain, last night confirmed he is mulling over "concrete offers" from Premier League clubs.

He did not mention United specifically in that context, but spoke of his admiration for and "great relationship" with his former Inter Milan boss Mourinho.

And when asked if there had been an offer from the Old Trafford outfit, Ibrahimovic paused for several seconds with a smile on his face, before saying: "Let's see what happens."

Asked if he has spoken to Mourinho in the past week, the 34-year-old Swedish frontman said: "I have spoken with him every day since I left Inter Milan.

"I have a great relationship with Mourinho and we are in contact."

Regarding the prospect of Mourinho taking over at United, Ibrahimovic said: "I think it is a great move - if you want action you bring Mourinho.

"I believe he is the man to take them back to the top.

"Wherever he went he has won. He knows what he is doing. If you want to win, you bring Mourinho.

"I had a fantastic time with him when I was working with him - so working again with him...?

"When I left Inter I said we had had a short time together but a great time. If we will work together again, I don't know. Let's see how things play out.

"I don't give guarantees - but there are concrete offers from the Premier League, so let's see what happens."

It was also put to Ibrahimovic that there have been questions over whether he would be suited to the Premier League, given his age.

He replied: "I am only warming up. I had a fantastic season and proved age is just a number.
