BRENDAN RODGERS used Swindon Town as somewhere his young Liverpool players could go out and learn their trade - and the English League One outfit want that relationship to continue next season.

Luke Williams, the Swindon manager, is open to taking players from Celtic down on a temporary basis over the upcoming campaign.

Rodgers's son Anton plays for the club and during his time in charge at Anfield sent Brad Smith, Lawrence Vigouroux, Kevin Stewart and Jordan Williams there on short-term deals.

Glasgow Times: Anton Rodgers

Given the size of his squad at Parkhead, Rodgers will put some fringe players out on loan and at least he won't be short of takers.

Williams said: "Brendan has been at the County Ground plenty of times and obviously Anton is here so he knows a lot about the football club.

“I think that he would probably feel confident sending players to Swindon, probably more confident to send a player to us than any other League One club just because of that contact.

“That is what life is about. It is about having a contact and trusting that person because you know more about them.

Glasgow Times: Brendan Rodgers believes fate has helped bring him to Celtic

“I would like to think he would consider us. I am sure there are some top players in the club at Celtic that would thrive and would be a perfect time for them to come and start their careers.

“It is an obvious link and we are an ideal club to take a player from Celtic and give them the experience and hopefully they will give us performances on the pitch.”

Rodgers is sure to move on some of the squad, either permanently or temporary. At one stage Celtic had ten players out on loan last season.
