ALAN STUBBS has backed former team-mate Neil Lennon to be a success if he replaces him as manager of Hibernian.

And the now Rotherham United boss has promised Lennon, or whoever does take over from him at Easter Road if not the Celtic legend, that he won't try to lure any of his old players to England this summer.

Lennon is out of work and keen on a return to football. The ex-Celtic manager would consider going to the Championship side if a deal could be worked out and Stubbs believes his style would be the right for the job.

"Neil has got great experience, he's obviously a good man-manager," Stubbs told BBC Scotland. "It tells you about the ambitions of the club and I'm sure Hibs will be talking to other high-profile people."

And Stubbs added: "I wouldn't be surprised if we hear about a new appointment this week."

It was felt Stubbs would try to take John McGinn and Jason Cummings with him to Rotherham but while both could leave in the summer it won't be to rejoin the Liverpudlian.

When asked whether he would make a bid for any Hibs player, Stubbs said: "I'd like to, but I wouldn't. There are players there I would take, but out of respect I won't be returning.

"There are certainly players in Scotland who would embrace the Championship, but I won't give you any names.

"I'm leaving behind a great bunch of players. It was a privilege working with them. I fully believe they will go on and win promotion."

Stubbs, of course, left Easter Road a Scottish Cup winner and admitted the achievement only seemed real the week following the final win over Rangers.

"It probably didn't sink in for five or six days. I'm glad to be leaving on the back of such an amazing win.

"That Saturday and Sunday [the cup parade through Edinburgh] will stay with me forever. It's such a fantastic club and I thoroughly enjoyed my two years."
