I read in SportTimes earlier this week that Michael Mols believed Rangers would not be a match for Celtic next season.

The former Rangers striker even said the club should be shooting just to finish in the top six.

To be fair to Michael, he is saying that after probably not seeing a lot of games because he is out in Holland.

He’s quite entitled to his opinion like everyone else, he’s just being honest.

I’m sure Michael would have loved to have said Rangers are back, we will win the league, we have better players etc. That’s what the Rangers fans want to hear.

But he’s an honest person. I don’t think there is a huge gap between the two, and a lot of fans are expecting their team to go and win this league. In that respect, I agree with Michael, I think that would be a bit much.

From where we have come from in the last four years, I have no doubt they will be up there challenging. But you are not just talking about overhauling Celtic, you are talking about overtaking Aberdeen and Hearts, too. Even Motherwell who could strengthen in the summer.

There are good teams up there. Away games at Celtic Park, Pittordrie, Tynecastle, these are the games Rangers fans have missed, but they are not the same places, teams have improved.

Rangers have a massive way to go before they win the Premiership. Having said that, the club is not about finishing in the top six. That won’t do.

Mark Warburton has signed a lot of good players and the supporters will not accept to be that far off the top. They must challenge, and they will challenge. But you have to be realistic.
