JOSH WINDASS is confident he is prepared for his switch to Rangers after being given an insight into life at Ibrox in recent months.

The midfielder penned a pre-contract deal with Mark Warburton’s side in January and will join up with the Gers squad in the coming days as the Light Blues return to action ahead of the new campaign.

Windass will make the move across the border alongside team-mate Matt Crooks and has already set his sights on the Premiership title next term as Rangers look to make an immediate impact on their top flight return.

Life at Ibrox will be considerably different from that the 22-year-old has experienced in recent times with League Two outfit Accrington Stanley.

But he has already been given the inside track on what to expect in Glasgow as he prepares to get underway with Warburton’s side ahead of the big kick-off.

Windass told SportTimes: “I have spoken to David Weir quite a lot. When I was injured and when I was playing for Accrington he would ring me and ask how things were going.

“I have spoken to Andy Halliday as well. Kal Naismith is really good friends with him and I was at Accrington with Kal.

“He put me onto Andy and he has helped me out with where to live and telling me different things, which has been good.

“I have spoken to Andy Little a lot as well, he is a really good guy. He was saying it is a bit of a goldfish bowl so you need to be careful.

“But he was telling me how good it is at Rangers and he loved it at the club. He told me to enjoy it and that if I get my head down and work hard then the fans will take to me.

“That is the aim for me. I can’t wait to get started and to I’m really looking forward to the new season.”

Several months after the ink dried on their Gers deals, Windass and Crooks will finally have a chance to pull on the Light Blue jersey when Warburton’s side return to pre-season training at Murray Park.

The pair were criticised by Accrington boss John Coleman and branded ‘disrespectful’ when they signed on the dotted line at Ibrox in January, while chairman Andy Holt claimed the compensation fee Rangers will have to pay for the Stanley stars was a ‘joke’.

Windass was unable to end his time at the Wham Stadium on a high note as Coleman’s side missed out on promotion to League One but he insists there are no hard feelings as he gets set to start the next chapter of his career in Scottish football.

Windass said: “Accrington gave me a chance in football when nobody else would. James Beattie gave me a contract and all I wanted to do was go in and get a few opportunities in the first team. I have pushed on from there and done well.

“My relationship with John Coleman is unbelievable and I owe him a lot.

“He texted me when I left and that gave me real confidence. He said how good I had been for him and how he wanted me to do well at Rangers.

“There was no problem when I left. We are in a good place, myself and John, and I hope he does really well in the future.”
