Tony McInally doesn’t want the curtain to come down on Pollok’s season without his players having a bit of silverware to show for their efforts.

The Southside giants and Greenock will be taking centre stage in the Euroscot Eng Central League Cup Final at Somervell Park tonight.

And Lok gaffer Macca reckons his side’s 2015/16 achievements will lack sheen without a trophy prize.

Last night he said: "Finishing fifth top of the Super Premier pile on our return to the top league and our magnificent run to the Scottish Junior Cup final are definite signs of progression at the club./

"But I fear a look back at our campaign in years to come will only evoke fond memories if we have a cup win to our name .

“Nobody remembers the nearly men and it would be a crying shame if this group of Pollok players do not get the recognition they so richly deserve.

“It’s been a pleasure to work with them, but now the onus is on each and every player to go out and lay to the potential I know they possess in this cup final occasion.

“It will be no cakewalk as our games against Greenock last season in the Super First Division were very close- fought contests and with a new management team in place, I’m expecting things to be every bit as close to call.”

Macca has ruled out Ross McCabe, Chris Walker, Stevie Higgins and Keiron McAleenan from figuring in his line–up.

However, his selection thoughts are considerably boosted by the return of dominating skipper Paul Gallagher as well as midfield duo Colin Williamson and Liam Rowan.

He added: "Preparations have been anything but ideal as you might expect given we have played just three games in the past four weeks and it’s been extremely difficult to keep the guys focused.

“It’s also astonishing to think that Pollok are taking part in the final West Region game of the season just 24 days before we intend to report back for pre-season training.

"I really feel an earlier finish is needed if players are to get the necessary rest and recovery period before going again.

Another reason for Macca urging his troops to take the Euroscot Eng honours is down to the game marking the end of his partnership with loyal No.2 Stewart Ralston who is stepping down from his dugout role due to a mix of family and work circumstances.

The Lok boss said: "It’s debatable if I’d have enjoyed so many highs as a manager without Stewart at my side for the past 11 years and he’ll be a sad loss to myself the players and to Pollok football club.

“I’m pretty sure our supporters will take this opportunity to acknowledge his outstanding service and I’m hoping the players can do the same.”

Meanwhile, recently-installed Greenock gaffer Stevie Mooney confirmed that his side will be down to the bare bones with only 14 available players for the Euroscot finale.

He said: "Martin Orr broke his wrist in the semi-final defeat of St Anthony's and is a definite non-starter along with Jamie Campbell who is in the Merchant Navy and is away to sea for the next four months .

“Both players provide us with great energy and drive from midfield and will be sorely missed however we are keeping fingers crossed that Paul Harkins will be back from holiday in time to make the game.

“He was rejected as a potential Pollok signing and might just be motivated to prove a point...I certainly would in his shoes.

"There’s nothing for it but to go with what we have and look for the guys coming in to do us a turn on the night.”

Bookmakers rating Greenock as outright underdogs sits easy with Mooney and assistant boss Stevie Dallas.

He insisted: "The fifth best Super Premier side going up against a team relegated from the Super First does appear to be a total mismatch.

"But cup final occasions can throw up shocks and we are in with a chance if everyone does what we are good at.

“The pressure is all on Pollok and our guys have nothing to lose by having a go.”
