A well taken hat trick by wide midfielder Richie Burke helped Beith claim the Ayrshire Cup honours last night with a sparkling 5-1 victory over Irvine Meadow.

The former Petershill midfielder whose penalty kick conversion sealed the historic Scottish Junior Cup victory over Pollok last month came up trumps to level matters at 1-1 after Ryan Deas had fired the Medda into the lead at Abbey Park.

Calum Watt fired the Mighty’s second goal of the night and Burke was again on the mark approaching half time to earn his side a 3-1 interval advantage however Johnny Millar’s men were reduced to ten men shortly after the break when inspirational skipper John Sheridan was red carded by whistler Craig Napier.

Any hopes of a Medda revival were killed off by striker Thomas Collins bagging a fourth goal for Beith and the coup de grace was somewhat applied by that man Burke to round off a superb individual performance .

No more goals but plenty of talking points ensued over the closing stages as Deas striking woodwork was followed by the dismissal of Paul Frize leaving Beith playing 9 v 11 but only until the 87th minute when Medda centreback Grant Evans received his marching orders for a second yellow card offence
