THERE has been a significant fall-out from the announcement of the Premiership fixture list for next season and I can see why Partick Thistle, Motherwell and Hamilton Accies are unhappy.

Thistle and Well have both released statements expressing their anger and demanding the games are rescheduled because they will have fewer home matches against Rangers and Celtic next season than some other clubs.

In the Jags’ case, they say it will mean a loss of revenue of about £120,000 and the Fir Park board have claimed there is a ‘significant financial advantage for some clubs over others’ as a result of the anomalies within the fixture list.

Unsurprisingly, the SPFL will not hand out compensation to cover the cash and they will not redraw the schedule either.

I am sure the Rangers fans will see the irony here, though. It is only a few years since clubs across the country were saying that they didn’t need our supporters going to their grounds and didn’t need the money that Rangers fans generate.

For years, they didn’t bother about Rangers but now that we are back there are clubs fighting to get money that we will bring.

But there is the sporting side of it as well and they do have a point there. It is unfair if some teams have the Old Firm at home three times and they only get them once.

So of course they are going to be angry and they have made their feelings clear here.

It doesn’t affect Rangers, though, and I don’t think they will be taking too much interest in how this is going to pan out.

The ire of these clubs is directed at the SPFL and the people that draw up the schedule.

You have to be fair to every club in the league but that is not the case here. They will just have to get on with it, though.
