DAVID WEIR reckons playmaker Niko Kranjcar will add a new dimension to the Rangers forward line next season.

The Croatian completed his move to Ibrox last week as he put pen-to-paper on a two-year deal with the Light Blues after leaving the New York Cosmos.

Kranjcar has returned to the USA as part of the Gers’ squad for their pre-season training camp in Charleston and assistant manager Weir is confident the 31-year-old will have a big impact at Ibrox next term.

He said: “He has played at big clubs so he understands the mentality and what is required.

“He spoke very well in the Press, he was very clear as regards to where he is at, what he expects and what he wants to do.

“His quality, obviously, is excellent and it is our job to get that out of him. It is exciting times and an exciting signing and I am sure the fans are really looking forward to seeing him in a Rangers jersey.

“He adds to what we have got and it is always nice to have a mix. We have got technical players, we have got creative players but I think Niko adds a different dimension.

“He is experienced with the clubs and tournaments he has played in and the level of football he has played. I think he can add to the undoubted talent that we have already got.

“It (his desire) is really important. It is well documented that Mark (Warburton) went to see him in New York and got a feel for him, which we always try and do with the players to find out about him as a person and he showed his desire to come here.

“We worked really hard to get him here, Frank has done a lot of work to make it happen and we are delighted to finally get him here.”

The deal to sign Kranjcar was not the only one that boss Warburton completed last week as he prepares his squad for a crack at the Premiership crown next term.

Keeper Matt Gilks also signed on the dotted line until the summer of 2018 after he left Championship winners Burnley at the end of the season.

And Weir hopes the arrival of the former Scotland shot-stopper will bring out the best in Wes Foderingham during his second campaign in Light Blue.

He told RangersTV: “Wes done fantastically well last year and with Cammy leaving we needed to have some competition. Matt will definitely provide that.

“He has great experience. He has played international games, he has played at a good level in England and, again, he was desperate to come.

“He understands the club, understands what it is all about and understands the expectations. He can push us on to greater things.”
