GLASGOW may need the Law to be out in force in their Scottish speedway Sky showdown on Wednesday - in more ways than one.

Tigers' No 1 Richard Lawson expects punch-ups and jeers against Edinburgh as the home team look to overthrow their all-conquering neighbours from last season.

The 30-year-old Englishman won't be able to misbehave too much - because one of his bosses will be commentating on him.

Kelvin Tatum, Lawson's team boss for his Elite League team Lakeside, is the regular co-commentator for Sky Sports alongside Nigel Pearson and will be at the Peugeot Ashfield Stadium for the Premier League clash.

The Lawman said: "You forget that the cameras are there when the racing starts - but it's always nice to get a good meeting live on TV.

"Kelvin is at every meeting for us at Lakeside and we get on really well. He's basically the team manager - and helps out with things like bike set-ups. But I don't think he'll be allowed to give me any tips on Wednesday night!

"You get punch-ups and all sorts at the derby. I think the fans gain from it - it's a better atmosphere, you get more supporters there and you get boos and cheers, win or lose - so it adds a bit to it. It's always more exciting.

"I do get some abuse at times but I love it - if you get booed or cheered, you're doing something well. If you don't get a response then you should be looking at yourself."

It's the first time that the broadcaster has shown the Scottish derby live, and Lawson insists everyone will be keen to impress armchair fans across the UK as well as an anticipated four-figure crowd on the terraces.

He said: "For both teams, everyone wants to put themselves in the shop window and make themselves look good. But first and foremost, it's about getting the win.

"The rivalry adds some spice and I suppose they've got more than one up on us after beating us to two trophies last season. It would be nice to get one up on them, for sure.

"But it definitely won't be easy - they've done a lot of laps around our place so those guys know it pretty well. They've got good riders - Sam Masters is one of the best in the Premier League and they have strength in depth as well.

"The track will be different - normally we're riding under the sun and it can get quite slick pretty quickly. But when there's no sun out the moisture stays in the ground, so it actually rides better, I feel.

"If we could ride evening meetings all the time it would be good. When there's more moisture in it, the grip is a lot better and it opens the racing lines up."

The Tigers will operate rider replacement at No 2 for the injured Nike Lunna, with Rene Bach - making only his second appearance since signing earlier in the month - at No 4.

Edinburgh's new signing Mark Riss will be making his Ashfield debut.
