RANGERS have had many great strikers over the years, with Ally McCoist topping the list as the Ibrox side's all-time leading goalscorer...

PAUL BROUGH (Hurlford) – One of the first football matches I went to as a boy was a Rangers v Morton game in 1987. The Gers won 7-0. Two players scored hat-tricks. One was Ally McCoist, who was the other?

Marc Falco was the other hat-trick scorer. Robert Fleck was the other scorer.

CELTIC MINDED (Blantyre) – Could you tell me from which junior team did Celtic sign Jim Brogan.

Jim Brogan was signed from St Roch’s.

KIRSTY STEWART (Renfrew) – I recently found a ticket for the World Youth Cup semi-final match between Scotland and Portugal in 1989. Could you provide match details?

Played in front of almost 30,000 fans at Tynecastle on June 20, 1989, the Scotland starlets made history by becoming the first, and thus far only Scotland side to reach an international final.

Craig Brown’s side defeated a Portuguese team, featuring future superstar Luis Figo, thanks to a powerful second-half header from Celtic’s Brian O’Neil, who was identified by no less than Pele as one of the stars of the tournament.

Despite strong second-half pressure from the Portuguese, whose side also included future full internationalists Abel Xavier, Paolo Santos, Tulipa, Bino and Peixe, the Scots hung on for victory, provoking euphoric celebrations and even tears in the overjoyed capacity crowd.

Scotland would famously lose the final on penalties at Hampden to Saudi Arabia’s “youth” side, many of whom sported full beards and bulging muscles.

Scotland: James Will (Arsenal), James Beattie (Celtic), Kevin Bain (Dundee), Gary Bollan (Dundee United), John Lindsay (Dundee United), Kevin McGoldrick (Morton), Paul Dickov (Arsenal), Brian O’Neil (Celtic), Tom McMillan (Dundee United), Ian Downie (Aberdeen), Scott Marshall (Arsenal). Subs: William Dolan (Celtic), Neil Murray (Rangers), Andy McLaren (Dundee United), Craig Flannigan (Rangers), Martin Dickson (Kilmarnock).

ROBERT JONES (Glengarnock) – Kilmarnock FC had their Centenary in 1969. Did they have a match to celebrate the event?

They did. On April 12 of that year they played top West German side Eintracht Frankfurt at Rugby Park.

The game ended in a 1-1 draw. Queen opened the scoring for Killie, Nickel equalised for the Germans.
