CELTIC midfielder Kris Commons is set to to turn down the chance to team up with old manager Neil Lennon and fight for his place at Parkhead.

The former Scotland internationalist was recently linked with a move through to Easter Road to team up with Lennon, who was his manager at Paradise for three seasons.

However, SportTimes understands the man who turns 33 next month is not prepared to give up on his Celtic career.

Commons has a year still left on his current deal and even though there is still a raft of players occupying the Hoops midfield, it is believed the former Derby forward is determined to prove to new manager Brendan Rodgers that he can adapt to his high-tempo and pressing style of play.

Celtic are currently in Slovenia on a pre-season training camp while the injured Commons is back in Scotland, but speaking earlier this week about his player, Rodgers said: "At the minute Kris is injured.

"For Kris or any player they have to be able to play how I want to work.

"They have to be able to run. They have to be able to press. They have to be aggressive. They have to be able to touch and get up to people.

"Celtic are used to having the ball of course but you have to get the ball back.

"The possibility is open to every player. But at this moment in time Kris is just worrying about getting fit. And then – we will see where he is at."

Commons underwent surgery at the end of the last campaign and is currently in a race against time to be fit for next week's Champions League qualifier against either Flora or Lincoln Red Imps.
