RANGERS have announced that managing director Stewart Robertson will not stand for election to the SPFL board as the nominees are named.

Robertson had said last month that he intended to put himself forward for one of the three vacancies that will be voted for on July 20.

However, a club statement released today revealed that the Gers director has made a U-turn and won't bid for a place on the nine-strong board after failing in his attempt at last year's AGM.

The SPFL revealed today that Celtic's Peter Lawwell, Ann Budge of Hearts and Partick Thistle's Ian Maxwell are standing for the Premiership positions.

Dundee United's Stephen Thompson, Hibernian's Leeann Dempster and Eric Drysdale of Raith Rovers have been put forward for the two Championship roles.

There is only one position available for League One and League Two, and Brechin City's Ken Ferguson is the lone nominee.

The Rangers statement read: "Rangers Managing Director, Stewart Robertson, has decided not to stand for election to the SPFL board. Mr Robertson’s decision comes after much thought and consideration.

"Mr Robertson is fully committed to ensuring Rangers’ return to the top flight runs as smoothly as possible.

"It should be pointed out that after a series of meetings with other Premiership representatives over the last month, Rangers is confident its views are being listened to and treated with the utmost respect.

"It is accepted that Rangers’ voice is being heard within Hampden, both at SFA and SPFL levels.

"Although Mr Robertson won’t be standing for election, he has made it clear he will be available to assist the governing bodies when and if required. No-one should be in any doubt Rangers will be perfectly positioned to contribute and play a full part in moving Scottish football towards a brighter future."
