Pollok team boss Tony McInally is determined to hold his nerve as he prepares to put the final touches to his playing squad ahead of the new Junior season.

The Newlandsfield outfit exceeded all expectations after being promoted to the Super Premier top flight at the start of last season.

And in a bitter-sweet finale to the season they finished ETXenergy Scottish Junior Cup runners-up to Beith but captured the Euroscot Eng Central League Cup honours by dishing out a 7-1 beating to Greenock.

Nobody delighted in the Southside outfit’s achievements more than Macca himself.

However, he is gearing up to try and continue restoring the Glasgow club’s fortunes by overseeing a major revamp of his playing hand.

A parting of the ways has already occurred in the case of fringe players Mark McLennan, Stevie Higgins and back-up goalkeeper Ryan Ward as well as one of last season’s regular starters Kevin Bradley.

Through in the in door, though, have come winger Gary McCann (Irvine Meadow ) and striker Michael Daly (Petershill).

And the Lok gaffer has also restored his backroom team numbers with the appointment of Murdie McKinnon as replacement for erstwhile No.2 Stewart Ralston, who decided to take time away from Junior football at the end of last season.

Macca said: "I’ll be going on holiday shortly and have no hesitation in leaving Murdie in charge as he’s a top notch coach who is steeped in the Juniors from his spells with Blantyre Vics, Irvine Meadow and Ashfield.

“He’ll keep things ticking along and help bed the newcomers in as well as running the rule over a few prospective signings who will be going through their pre-season pace,s however we’re in no rush to make further signings at this stage.

“It’s more important that any new faces are capable of challenging for jerseys as I’m loathe to pack out the squad with bodies just for the sake of it.”

The rumour mill reckons goalscoring midfielder Sean Fraser (formerly of Irvine Meadow and Ashfield ) is one of the names on Pollok’s signing radar.

However, Macca refused to confirm or deny any transfer interest though he did say pointedly.

“There was more right than wrong with us last season so we were always going to keep the nucleus of the side.

"However, we did set out to bring in players capable of offering something different to what we have on the books and that is abundantly clear when you look at our signings to date.

“Gary is a fast and direct winger type who netted a lot of goals for Medda and we undoubtedly need to get more goals from the wide areas and midfield if we want to mount a challenge for the big prizes.

“His abilities were recognised by a number of Super Premier clubs and I felt Pollok were going to be involved in a bidding war for his services but he was totally committed to coming here once I declared an interest and I was quite surprised by his desire to put pen to paper for Pollok despite several more lucrative contract offers being dangled in his face.

“Michael who has Senior experience with the likes of Queen's Park and Clyde was top scorer at the Peasy last season and he provides a real aerial threat to augment the skilful and powerful running strikers currently at the club and I’m excited about what he brings to the table.

“I cannot stop people speculating over our remaining transfer targets but “different” is undoubtedly one of the qualities in any CV.”

Close-season whispers alleging feted ex-Senior duo Robbie Winters and Ross McCabe are earmarked for pastures new were scoffed at by Macca .

He insisted: "Ross finished the season very strongly and I’m over the moon that he has penned a new deal and will be staying at Pollok as he’s a quality defender and would have played more regularly last time but for the wonderful form shown by Chris Walker and Paul Gallagher .

“Robbie has yet to decide his future, but is in training with the guys and he knows how highly I rate his abilities so we’ll talk things over before any commitment is made.”

Elsewhere on the transfer scene comes word of Kilsyth Rangers manager Keith Hogg snapping up his former Linlithgow Rose team-mate Mark Tyrrell.
