DANNY WILSON reckons Rangers will reap the physical rewards of their clash with Charleston Battery – and he had the stitches to prove it.

Mark Warburton’s side rounded off their training camp in South Carolina with a 2-1 win at the MUSC Stadium last week as goals from Josh Windass and Harry Forrester clinched a deserved triumph.

Wilson started the game alongside Oguchi Onyewu but had to be replaced in the opening minutes after suffering a facial injury that required lengthy treatment at the side of the park and back in the Gers’ dressing room.

The defender was able to return to the pitch in the second half to get vital match minutes under his belt and was pleased with the first run-out of the campaign.

Wilson said: “It happened in the first two minutes. It was nothing, really. My mouth was closed and my top tooth’s gone through my lip.

“He was trying to protect the ball and his elbow’s come up and my head’s gone down. I got four or five stitches.

“I was keen to go back on so that wasn’t a problem. I’ve had stitches before ibn my head so I knew the only problem would be if I got elbowed again, but I managed to get through it without any more mishaps. I wanted to get some game time.

“We’ve been back for a couple of weeks and we wanted to get out and play a game.

“There’s only so much you can do in training. There was always going to be rustiness, but you can get that out of your system early on. We were able to do that on Wednesday.

“We won the game but the important thing was the physical aspect of it.

“We moved the ball quite well at times but we’ll have to do it a lot better in the League Cup games coming up. It was a worthwhile exercise.”
