TOM WALSH has set his sights on promotion to the Premiership after clinching a loan deal with St Mirren.

The winger has made the move to Paisley until January as he bids to impress in the second tier and catch the eye of Rangers boss Mark Warburton.

Walsh joined the Gers squad in South Carolina for their pre-season training camp and started the win against Charleston Battery.

He has found himself pushed down the Light Blue ladder after a host of arrivals in recent weeks and will now look to become a key part of Alex Rae’s Saints plans this term.

Walsh said: “I’m delighted to be here. Obviously it is a good club, good facilities and a good stadium so I’m looking forward to getting games.

“It is good to have someone like the gaffer who has obviously played at a great level, to want me to come here and it is a great move for me to get games under my belt and try to establish myself in the team.

“I just want to enjoy my football and play games, obviously not going to get the opportunity at Rangers, so it was a no-brainer to come here.

“I like to get forward, create things and hopefully I can add some goals to my game, that’s what I need to improve on so hopefully I can do that here. Just to create things and excite people that is what I try and do.

“It’ll be tough [this season] but this is a good club who should be in the Premiership so I think we have got to look high and try and get ourselves up the table as quick as we can for as long as we can. There is no reason why not, there is a good squad here so we are more than capable of doing it.

“The aim is obviously promotion, that is the ultimate aim, everyone knows that but we’ll take it game by game and hopefully we can do it.”
