MARK WARBURTON is confident Josh Windass can follow in the footsteps of his title winning heroes and make a name for himself at Ibrox this term.

The former Accrington Stanley star has impressed during his first two outings for Rangers as Warburton’s side have beaten Motherwell and Annan in the Betfred Cup.

Windass was a virtual unknown north of the border before Rangers completed pre-contract deals to bring him and team-mate Matt Crooks to Ibrox from League Two.

The English market was one that Warburton shopped successfully in last season as he overhauled his Ibrox squad and went on to lead his side to the Championship title and Petrofac Training Cup.

James Tavernier, Martyn Waghorn and Rob Kiernan all made the move from Wigan, while keeper Wes Foderingham was recruited from Swindon Town.

And Warburton hopes Windass can continue to catch the eye as he looks to become a key part of his Gers blueprint in the Premiership.

He said: "If you look back at last season, not many fans would have heard of Tav, Waggy, Rob Kiernan or Wes Foderingham before they came here.

"But they came and made an impression. So I think you have to give credit to our scouting department in terms of looking at our young talents.

"Josh has already shown his quality. He's got a change of pace, a dynamism in the final third and he's clever on the ball.

"So with him, I think you will see another young player - just as you will with Joe Dodoo and Jordan Rossiter - pushing really hard.

"They haven't come here to make up the numbers. Josh is a really exciting talent. We're delighted with his progress so far.

“It's early days and he knows what he has to do but we believe there is a real player there."
