ALAN ARCHIBALD was pleased with another productive night for Partick Thistle as the Jags made it three wins from three games with victory over Stenhousemuir.

Thistle are top of Group E heading into their final Betfred Cup clash with Queen’s Park as they look to round off the section with maximum points ahead of the new Premiership campaign.

First half goals from Mathias Pogba and Sean Welsh put Thistle on course for a comfortable win at Ochilvew but a series of missed chances and a Liam McCroary strike gave the Warriors hope going into the closing stages.

David Amoo and Ade Azeez netted in quick succession at the death to ensure Thistle’s performance was rewarded with the goals it deserved.

And boss Archibald is confident his side are on the right track ahead of their top flight opener against Inverness next month.

He said: “I am delighted with the victory. It was a good first half performance as well, I thought we were dominant and created a lot of chances.

“Second half, give credit to Stenny, I thought they were probably better. They started better than us and we lost a sloppy goal. I am delighted with the result.

“They will always get chances but I said that before the game. A team will always get chances regardless of who you are playing and it happened at the weekend as well.

“It is disappointing that it came from a set-play. People have got jobs to do.

“I know it still feels like pre-season but we will not get away with that when the Premiership kicks-off.

“The good thing about the tournament is that everyone is getting minutes. We are getting them focused for the start of the season.

“It has been good so far with three games and three wins. I can’t ask for any more.

“Danny Devine had an injury. Chris Erskine is good on that surface but his recovery is a bit poor after it so we had that in mind. We tried to give guys minutes and make sure that we hit every base.”
