RYAN EDWARDS hopes the Firhill crowd will see the best of him this season after a productive summer schedule for Partick Thistle.

The midfielder joined Alan Archibald’s side in October last year and made 17 appearances for the Jags as he became a key part of the Thistle squad.

Edwards has featured in all three of the Betfred Cup wins against Airdrieonians, Queen of the South and Stenhousemuir as the Jags have moved to within touching distance of a last 16 spot.

A home clash with Queen’s Park today is the final outing before the visit of Inverness next week and the start of the new Premiership campaign.

And Edwards is confident it will be a season to remember for him and Archibald’s side as he looks to reap the rewards of his efforts this summer.

He said: “I think the fans have yet to see the best from me and hopefully I can have positive performances throughout this year.

“As any player will tell you, a full pre-season is really important and I have had a good amount of game time, which I am happy with.

“The cup games have gone well so I am hoping for a good season both for myself and for the team this year.

“It is massive to have a pre-season at a club and to go through everything that you need to go through from the early stages when you get back training.

“It took me a few weeks to break into the team when I signed last season and then I had a good number of games towards the end of the campaign.

“It did take me a while to get going and that is just football. The team was playing well and we have good depth in the squad.

“I have had a good few weeks. Everyone has come back firing for the new season and we still have players to come back into the squad as well which is good for the team.”

Thistle head into their derby clash with Gus MacPherson’s side today knowing they only need a point to clinch top spot in Group E after a hat-trick of wins in recent days.

Boss Archibald has targeted a prolonged run in the revamped League Cup in the coming months as he looks to give the Firhill crowd plenty to get excited about this term.

And Aussie Edwards is determined to play his part as the Jags dare to dream of cup glory and set their sights on a top six spot in the Premiership.

He said: “It is important for us to get four wins and it sends out a good statement to finish on 12 points. It would be good for us to get another win.

“All the players have bought into what the manager said at the start of the season about going on a cup run. In the last few years we have gone out too early.

“It is good to be in a competition as long as possible so we want to go as far as we can.

“Managers, players and fans dream of going to Hampden and we are not different at Thistle.

“We will take each game at a time and hopefully we can get a positive result today to get through to the next round. We will take it from there.

“I haven’t had a cup run in my career unfortunately. I have always been knocked out in the early stages. It would be nice to get to a semi-final or a final.

“We can take encouragement from previous years and Inverness and Ross County winning cups. If we are there come the latter stages that would be great.”
